Healing Power of Plantain

Ribwort Plantain

In this short video I talk about the folk use of Plantain, and in this instance Ribwort Plantain (Plantago lanceolata). The same information applies to Greater Plantain (Plantago major), however I do not know if it applies to Buckshorn Plantain (Plantago coronopus) or Sea Plantain (Plantago maritima).

That being said I usually make it a rule to only teach wild food and not wild herbal medicine. Why? Because herbal medicine is a minefield and is a very specialist field that requires long training, and as the old saying goes “A little knowledge is a dangerous thing”.

That being said there is a big difference between ‘folk herbalism’, and ‘medical herbalism’. For starters if you have serious health issues e.g. heart related problems, you would be foolish to go and buy a book and try to self medicate. However if you cut yourself, then knowing about a plant that might stop the bleeding or reduce the pain of Nettle sting would be of use to you, and would not (in theory) put your life in too much danger.

nice video. I grow this in my garden and use it just about every time I scratch myself or get stung. Only thing I was dissapointed in was when he said dockweed is all in the mind. it does work. thanks and keep up the good work.
