My favourite wild garlic recipe is to wrap chick peas in Ransoms with a drop or two of lemon juice, instant houmous :0)

Thanks for posting yet another informative video Eat Weeds.

I love these videos, seeing other people enjoying wild food makes me smile :)

I remember picking ramsoms with my mum when I was little, a small amount chopped and added to a salad is very tasty.

Rich: Thanks for the heads up on “instant houmous”, I’ll post my own houmous recipe using wild garlic shortly.

Luna: Glad you like the vids, and yes it was one of my earliest wild food memories too.

James: Somewhere in the back of my brain I hear answer saying “Yes”, but I specialise in British wild food, so to be sure grab a copy of Newcomb’s Wildflower Guide and check it out yourself. This book is highly recommended by my US friends.

We used to eat Ramsons as a quick snack whilst out walking the dogs, but we used to eat the stalks. I have since found out most people eat the flowers and leaves. Why is this ?

Robin May 17, 2009 at 7:32 am

Nicki: Leaves, flowers and stalks of wild garlic are normally eaten because they are the tastiest parts of the plant to consume. The bulb can be eaten to, however it is illegal in England to dig up any wild plant without the consent of the landowner.

IS WILD GARLIC DIFFERENT FROM NORMAL GARLIC, IN ITZS MEDICINAL PROPERTIES? AND WHERE CAN ONE GET THEM TO BE BOUGHT? PLEASE HELP.THANK YOU.

Robin June 23, 2010 at 4:45 pm

Venkat – I don’t know the medicinal properties of Ramsons (Wild Garlic), however I would assume they are going to be different. Also I never encourage anyone to ‘buy’ wild edible plants. The point is to get out onto the land and harvest the plants yourself.
